If the first time didn't work, at least now position won't change. Then with other hand put a small drop of glue in the socket while squeezing quite hard. With one hand, make that same squeeze which did make it light up, making sure not to tweak the shape. Have a tube of CA glue ready (Super glue. Making sure you have the angles you like the Snark at whilst using it (how it sits on the guitar headstock in the position you prefer), gently remove it from the guitar so as to not mess up this positioning. Here's what you do: If you squeeze the first curve of the shaft behind the head with your index finger and your thumb is on the front edge of the head (NOT on screen), after plucking an open string it will light up due to your tightening the connection between the ball and the socket. Well, since I'd have to buy a new tuner anyway, if my new fix idea didn't work, what could I lose ? Turns out that I was spot on in my belief that one of the ball joints at ends of the S-curved shaft get worn down and then the note's vibration can no longer continue from the ball to the socket it's in, behind the head. I've thought for a long time now about why this is and if I could fix it. All of us who've been using Snarks eventually wind up with the same problem they quit responding to the string, and the screen doesn't light up.
